Wednesday, Sept.24th Making Up Rules As We Go !

Three good games again. Mailman Jay had bike trouble. At sprint, his chain would jump off and put him in a very bad position. Like on his butt, or straddling the top tube. So after game 2, I let him use my 46'r, which was too small for a 5'11" gear masher. I needed the break. He needed to play.

Games started late, around 8:30pm. So after every game, (Troy quote)" lets turn and burn". No break, water only. Still it lasted past 10:30pm.
New Rule: After the opposing team scores, you have to wait till the other team is at least half way back across the field before you can move forward to score. Troy...Thanks for your input and patients.

MT has strep. Wish him well.

Team#1; Troy, Jim, Piranha#2, Mooky, Tracy.

Team#2; Jay, MiniMike, Piranha#1, Lil'Anthony an Me.

Sunday, Sept. 28th is cancelled.

See ya'll Wed. the 1st at 7pm sharp. Piranha#1 and Mooky will be a tad late.

Sunday, Sept. 21st A Milestone for Piranha # 1

What a night to remember. Jacob, Piranha #1, played with clipless shoes for the first time. We put them on at noon Sunday, he rode around for a bit and by polo time he had it down. Those of us who live by the clipless system marvel at how easy kids figure it out. Now believe me when I say he had his moments on the polo park, forgetting to unclip, It was fun watching the process. Oh by the way, Piranha #1 is 10 years old and is an amazing Kid. We are very proud of him.

3 games played. Passion is how I describe our group of players. Tired or not, everyone gives there all. The battles between MiniMike and Mailman Jay are world class.

Team #1..Jay, Jim, Piranha #1, and Me

Team #2..Mt, MiniMike, Mooky, Piranha#2

Wednesday, Sept.17th. Here's Hoping for New Blood

Another outstanding night of bike polo. The quote of the evening from Jay's wife Mel, "It is cooler down here". I think she knows that fall like weather is coming very soon. We like to call it Chamber of Commerce weather. It's why we live here.

Two boys from Brophy High paid us a visit. Sorry I don't remember their names. But were so interested about what the hell we were doing, that we let them ride a couple bikes and bang the ball around a bit. " We can do this" and asked if they could play next time. Fee- Fi- Fo- Fum. I smell the blood of a newbie.

Evenly matched games again. Play started a bit late. But once Piranha#1 and Mooky got there, it got crazy. 3 games played. I think everyone scored at least once. Troy had the only mechanical. Can't wait till Sunday.

Team#1: MT, Jay, Piranha#1, and Me

Team#2: Tommy, Troy, Mooky, Piranha#2 and Lil' Anthony.

Next game, Sunday the 21st at 6pm sharp

Sunday, Sept. 14th Two Phase Games

I know this sounds like a broken record, but no matter how we split up into teams, it is very evenly matched. All 4 games were close and one went to 15 points again. Makes for a long night of 20 yard sprints. It was a 2 phase night of play. 1st phase was short two players. Mini Mike and I were taking care of flat tires on his mom's car. Got to the polo park an hour and a half late. 2nd phase was the 3rd and 4th games.

This was an evening of the high ball. We allow picking the ball like a sand wedge, flipping it to score. There were amazing blocks of the flip too. Mooky some how blocked a flip and hit it again in the air to make a great defensive play. Jay simply says "no" and reaches for the high ball, catches it and throws it away. One handed play. Jeeze.
Team#1: Jay, Jim, Mooky and Me.
Team#2: MT, MiniMike, Piranha#1.
Photos; The gear bag! There are things in it that are 12 years old.

See ya Wednesday, the 17th at 7pm sharp.

Peace....JB

Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 Crazy Crash Polo

Troy said it, and it was a beautiful Arizona evening. Especially with 10 of the best Bike Polo players around. Evenly matched teams played 3 HARD games, One even went to 15 points. There were several crashes. I think all went down('cept me) at least once. Some lots. Piranha #2 slid down on the top tube, and felt a little man pain. For a 10 year old to say he just crushed his n##s, must have been painfull. Mooky gets the honors though. Spectacular, in-your-face, knee draggin', butt kickin', flip-flop dive in the grass. Got up, brushed off and played, hard. Big Tim, you would be proud of your Bro.

Gas being what it is, Thanks to all for coming. MT, hope to see you soon. Get well.
The Sergeon General has determined that Phoenix Bike Polo is good for your health.
Team#1: Jay, Piranha#1, Piranha#2, MiniMike and Me.

Team#2: Troy, Tommy, Mooky, Lil' Anthony and Crazy Ivan.

Sunday, Sept. 7th Polo at it's Finest

7 of the crazies showed up for fun and sweat. With fewer players than the norm, everyone stepped up and showed their skills. Piranha #1 was stellar. He has a nack for sneeking up on you and stealing the ball. But he calls it "Battling". Great fun and another one for the history books.

Team#1: Mooky, Lil'Anthony, Jay and Me.

Team#2: MT, Tracy, Piranha#1.

FOURTEEN Players, Really!!

It never ceases to amaze me. After so many years, this many people still love the game. A freshly mowed lawn, stellar weather, and good friends to play bicycle polo with.

The only thing that stained our evening was a couple young boys walking the highside of the park, found out the hard way ,that we take rock throwing very serious. When caught, they were amazed at how fast we were. No harm done. Hand shakes, and back to play.

Team#1: Jay, Piranah#1, Piranha#2, Jim P, MiniMike, Anthony, and Me.( 2 games to 1).

Team#2: MT, Troy, Tracy, Big Tim, Mooky, Tommy and Lil' Anthony.

Sunday, the 28th at 6pm sharp. Next game.

Peace....JB

Bike Polo Sunday August 31st 2008

Another monsoon storm destroys the polo park. Again, water from the "Evil Grate" flooded our sacred ground with junk from the nearby freeway. The boys picked up stuff(mostly glass and rocks) for quite awhile. There were swamp like spots on the left and center of the field. So we moved our goals to the right side of the park and played on.

9 players showed up. The smell, bugs, and sewage soaked shirts and baggies did not slow anybody. 3 games played.

Team #1. Jay, Piranha#2, Jim, Mooky, and Me

Team#2. MT, MiniMike, Piranha#1, and Big Tim (won all 3)

See you Wed. Sept. 3rd at 7pm sharp.
